A Visit to the Space Needle Observation Deck

To cure a case of cabin fever we took our sons to the top of the Space Needle.  They had never been and they have a fascination for architecture and the Space Needle in general.   We figured the elevator ride alone would be fascinating.  They ended up loving the view of the buildings below and didn't want to leave.  My husband proposed to me up there ten years ago this month, so the Space Needle is special to us, too. 
Since the proposal was the last time we'd visited, there was many positive changes.  They now have the biggest touchscreen in the world you can play around on and other screens where you can see close-up views from the streets below.  Also, before visitors enter the elevator to ride to the top, they get your photo taken.  They are then handed a ticket they can scan from the observation deck and share the photo to their friends.  They have at least ten of these kiosks where you can do this.  I emailed my photo to myself but I never received it.  Luckily, when I…

Christmas Eve Lunch at Dim Sum House

Christmas Eve was on a Saturday this year so going out for dim sum sounded like a nice way to get the weekend going.  We checked out Dim Sum House in Beacon Hill.  We drive by it every week and we've always heard good things about it from our friends.  Like most dim sum places, it didn't look like much from the outside and the inside wasn't too fancy either.  But the flavors were spot on and all the food seemed fresh and made to order.  Everything was hot and tasty, perfect for a chilly day.  They were pretty busy and there seemed to be a lot of locals dining.  Many people were picking up food to go, too.  We tried a lot of dim sum dishes and everything came to only $24.  You can't argue with that.  We'll have to return soon and try more!










Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake

Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake makes a sweet, rich, and filling breakfast for Christmas or New Years.  You can also make it the night before and then bake it the next morning.  The recipe reminded me of a French toast bake but with croissants, cream cheese and chocolate.  You use already made croissants, or you can use the canned crescent rolls.  Just make sure you bake them first and then cut them into pieces.  The recipe calls for two cups of chocolate chips, but I found the whole thing to be overly sweet, especially for breakfast, so maybe one cup would be better.  A slice in the afternoon with some coffee, while finishing some last minute holiday prep, was just the thing.  It makes a big pan, a 13x9 size, so unless you have a large crowd for brunch, then you can freeze some for later.  I really enjoyed the flavors of the bread, chocolate, and cream cheese.  I reminded me of a mix between cheesecake, French toast, and bread pudding.  Perfect for the holidays when you want a wa…

Four Places For Hawaiian Food In Seattle

Baby, it cold outside.  It's the night before Christmas Eve and I'm listening to Christmas music and looking forward to the weekend.  But if you're dreaming of the islands and some Aloha spirit, here are four Seattle restaurants for some Hawaiian food to warm you up and satisfy. 


Marination Mai Kai
This Hawaiian spot on Alki Beach not only boasts a killer view of the water and the Seattle skyline, but the food is on point and authentic and a meal you'll never forget.  I tried the Kalua Pork Sliders, the Spam Macaroni Salad, and the Strawberry Shaved Ice.  See my full post here







Ma'ono

Scenes from the Season in Downtown Seattle

I visited Downtown Seattle yesterday afternoon to check out the Gingerbread Village at the Sheraton and to walk around the city.  It was super busy and parking was a mess but I couldn't resist checking everything out.  I'm a sucker for Christmas decorations and everything just begs to be photographed.  I love all of the buildings and its always neat to see the lit up star on Macy's.  Come on, its a tradition and put up every year like clockwork for us to admire.  The theme this year for the Gingerbread Village was Harry Potter and it was very busy for a Wednesday afternoon.  The displays were  original and you could see how much detail went into every piece.  They were colorful and imaginative, too.  I think everyone else had the same idea to check them out because the lines to view the displays wrapped through the lobby of the hotel.  But if its Christmastime in Seattle, you've got to check out downtown and its many events.
