The Northwest Folklife Festival 2012

Yesterday we went to Seattle Center for the Northwest Folklife Festival which is held on Memorial Day Weekend every year.  Thousands of people attend so the crowds can get a bit out of hand.  The festival has lots of live music, food and it is definitely a place to people watch.  The day was a hot one, so standing in line for my Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, I had to suffer for it.  But this fried treat was so worth it.  The line was long and I think they got the tickets for the orders messed up because people behind me were getting their food before me.  I've never had a Fried PB&J, only a Fried Babe Ruth so I didn't know what to expect.  Turned out, it tasted like a doughnut with warm peanut butter and raspberry jelly, can you say yum? Besides the festival food, I enjoyed walking around and checking everything out.

Nutella Turnovers

It's been a while since I ate Nutella.  France of last year to be exact.  I had some Nutella Crepes while dining at a sidewalk cafe along the Rue de Rivoli.  So I thought it seemed about time to indulge in some of this creamy hazelnut spread. 

First I set my oven to 350 degrees.   I took some Phyllo dough and put about 1 Tablespoon of Nutella with a few chocolate chips.  Then I formed triangles and baked them on a cookie sheet with wax paper for about three or four minutes.  Phyllo dough is paper thin and very fragile, so these didn't take long to brown and crisp around the edges.  Follow the directions on the Phyllo dough box and cut the sheets into the size you want.  Then brush butter or oil on each sheet.  I used four small square sheets for each one and then shaped them into a triangle.  You can form the sheets to whatever shape you want and use which ever fillings you wish.

Happy Hour at Daniel's Broiler

Tonight we had happy hour at Daniel's Broiler on Lake Washington, their Leschi location.  I love the view of the lake and or course, of Bellevue across the way.  Besides this one on the Leschi Marina, there are two other restaurants, one on Lake Union and one in Bellevue and they are part of the Schwartz Brothers restaurants.  We just wanted appetizers, so I got the Crispy Fried Calamari with Spicy Cocktail Sauce and Lemon Aioli.  My husband ordered the Steak Sliders with Fries and a glass of Pinor Nior.  I got to tell you, the view of the sailboats and Bellevue on the other side of the lake, make this happy hour a very desirable one.  It was our first time at this location and we loved it.  If you live in Seattle and wonder where to go for happy hour or dinner, I would head to Daniel's on the Lechi Marina.

New York City 2009- Three Years Ago Today

In May 2009 my husband I and took a red eye flight to NYC.  It was our first visit to the big apple and the East Coast.  New York City is the largest city in the United States and is referred to as the city that never sleeps.  I'm a big city person and loved all the hustle and bustle and of course, all the incredible architecture.  We visited Central Park, an oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle, went to the top of the Empire State Building for a view of the whole city, saw Times Square at night and basically did all the fun touristy things you have to do on your first visit.  We got to check out the city for five days.
